Dr Linda Hollis
Clinical Psychologist/Geropsychologist

 

Linda has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Geropsychology (DPsych)(Clin & Gero) (geropsychology is the psychology of older adults), preceded by a Bachelor of Psychological Science (BPsySc)(Hons I), from the University of Queensland (UQ). She was recognised as a Dean’s Scholar during her studies. Linda has full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is recognised by AHPRA as a provider of specialist clinical psychological services. Linda is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), and she is Secretary/Treasurer of the APS Psychology and Ageing Interest Group. Linda is an accredited provider of Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) services.

Linda has experience working with a broad range of psychological problems, including anxiety disorders (including obsessive-compulsive disorder), depression/mood disorders, relationship difficulties, trauma, self-harm, personality disorders, schizophrenia, adjustment disorders and grief and loss (including infertility and related difficulties). Linda’s primary therapeutic approaches are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy. She also utilises Schema-Focused Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

As a result of her additional specialisation in geropsychology, Linda has experience working with older adults, both in private practice and in the nursing home environment, including older adults with cognitive impairment (for example, dementia, stroke). Linda’s work with older adults has included anxiety, depression, grief and loss, adjustment difficulties (for example, retirement, loss of spouse, chronic or severe health difficulties, transition to residential care), fear of falling, and relationship difficulties. Linda’s research focus has been on caregivers. Thus, she also has an interest in assisting caregivers with coping strategies and in managing stress, anxiety, and depression. Linda is passionate about the issue of access to psychological services, particularly for older adults. She strives to provide the best evidence-based treatment by staying up-to-date with the latest research and engaging in on-going education and training.

When not working, Linda enjoys a wide range of music, books and movies, as well as relaxing and having fun with family, friends, and her dogs.
